He earned an Associates Degree from Holyoke Community College in Music, and a Bachelor's Degree from Westfield State College in 1992 in Jazz studies, followed by a year of Graduate work at the University of Noth Texas; and a Music Teaching Certification in 2005 from Westfield State College in Music K-12. Approach to Teaching: "My approach to teaching is to focus on the basics - sight reading, technique, and basic theory that will be helpful for all students to know. For more intermediate and advanced students, I still focus on the core basics, but I will teach these students music that they are interested in learning - metal/rock, pop, blues, funk and jazz. I also encourage students to explore their own creativity on the guitar by writing their own compositions, and also creativity through improvising on the guitar, specifically with regard to Jazz improvisation."

The Impact of Music: "Music is very important in my life. It's what I do and has been my livelihood over the last 30 years. Playing the guitar is my passion, and my main outlet for creativity, and it is meant to be for me to be a guitarist/teacher.  Music helps people in many ways, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge in music/guitar with students at Falcetti Music, helping students learn to play the guitar, and experiencing the joy of playing music on the guitar; alone and together with other like minded musicians."

JOSH FRIEND

Modern/Classic Rock, Metal, Pop, Blues; (Enfield/Springfield)

Musical Achievements: Josh began teaching guitar in 2005.  He began playing Guitar, singing, and song writing over 15 years ago and is proficient in Drumming and playing Bass Guitar as well.  Josh regularly performs throughout the tri-state area in small clubs, theatres, and festivals in various groups, either as a solo artist or as a fill in band member. His bands have shared the bill with popular local bands (Thirty Stones, Hypnotic Kick, Negative Creep, Clip) and national acts (Staind, Sevendust, Collective Soul, Powerman 5000, Ra, Splitshift, Smile Empty Soul). Josh’s current musical projects include Alternative Nation (90’s tribute), Badmonkey (80’s 90’s modern rock), and Homeboy (original music). Josh also has an award to his credit: the readers of The Valley Advocate voted him Best Guitarist in the Valley for 2005.

Approach to Teaching: “It’s very important to build a friendly and encouraging relationship with both my students and their parents. I believe that every student is different and requires a separate and individual lesson plan. I enjoy teaching the fundamentals of music through their favorite musical artists, using the student’s favorite songs as their lesson material. I’ve found this style of instruction to be very relaxed and fun for the student, while at the same time making the lesson material more meaningful and memorable.  I have two goals: to make every student a long term student, and to make every student happy with his or her accomplishments.”

The Impact of Music: “The moment I knew that I wanted to make music and learn to play the guitar was after watching Slash perform the intro to Sweet Child O’ Mine.  I believe that every musician has that moment of initial inspiration, whether it comes from watching a rock star play on TV, watching a local musician play in a club, or having their guitar teacher show them how to play a favorite song.  I find it highly rewarding sharing that same feeling of inspiration with other aspiring musicians through performing and teaching!”

My students should expect a fun, hard working environment that will grant them the knowledge, tools and inspiration to achieve their musical goals. My lessons involve a dynamic of a fun, easy environment, while still maintaining a regiment of tools that will be crucial in the development of the student. Every lesson should end in the student excited to go home and better themselves."

clarinetist of his high school band(3 years), the Western Massachusetts district band (two years) and the Lions Club All-state band (two years, one as principal the other as assistant principal) and participated in the Massachusetts All-State band (two years).  More recently Adam has won the chancellors talent award at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and is currently serving as principal clarinetist in the Symphony band.  Adam also constantly performs with several bands in the area including the Italian band, the Melha Shriner's band and is a guest musician in several others.

Approach to Teaching: Teaching is a unique art form that is very different from person to person.  I come from a family of teachers
really see how everyone does things differently.  I've studied with some of the finest clarinet teachers all over the state.  Learning an
instrument is something that is meant to enrich a persons life, I'm sure that any problems my students have I can help them through and we
can get through together.

The Impact of Music: Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, one of my earliest memories is my first
clarinet lesson.  Growing up I remember having my parents sign me up for sports and I never really fully enjoyed or really much liked them.
Then one day I wondered into my Grandpa's closest and found his clarinet, at the time I had no idea what it was but I remember trying
to put it together.  My Grandpa found me, showed me the right way to put it together and had me play a simple song on it.  Before I knew it
I was enrolled in private music lessons and put in the grade school band.  My parents were thrilled that I had found something that they could come watch me do, to this day my Grandpa has not missed one of my concerts.

Whether I am absorbed by something that makes me feel meditative or aggressive, the language of music speaks to me and brings out emotions that are locked inside.
