Musical Achievements:

The roots of my career in music can be traced back to my mother introducing me to the piano at a young age. She was my first piano teacher, and for many years afterward she and my father nourished my additional ability of improvisation. Over the years, I have studied music in a variety of areas, including oboe and clarinet, as well as piano and music composition. I was introduced to organ during high school and decided to pursue a career as a church musician. I earned a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from UMass Amherst in 2007. While studying at UMass, I taught my first piano student. I have held posts as a church choir director and organist for the past 16 years, including at St. Theresa's Parish in South Hadley and for the Catholic Chaplaincy of Smith College. Although I constantly take on the role of teacher to people both young and old while working as a choir director and cantor instructor, I recently began to teach piano again and have found the experience very rewarding.

Approach to Teaching:

My primary goal as a music teacher is to challenge my students to perform music to the best of their ability, even when they don't think they are able to do it. I am able to help my students succeed by being patient and by continuously encouraging them. I try to balance musical discipline with humor so that the students will develop basic musicianship while having fun. In addition, if a student has an inclination toward improvising music, I help them build that skill.
