Musical Achievements:

Skyler's passion for singing began at a young age. She was first inspired by her high school choral teacher to begin vocal training and pursue serious musicianship. As a former student of Falcetti Music, Skyler competed as a solo artist and as an ensemble vocalist in the ATAM New England Music Festival for three years. In 2017, ATAM awarded her the Aldo DeRossi Scholarship for students pursuing music in college. She is also the recipient of the NAMM Music in Our Schools Scholarship, a national competition awarded annually to ten musicians throughout the U.S. and Canada. In high school, Skyler participated in the Western District choir for four consecutive years, and earned a spot in the All-State Choir in 2015 and 2016. Her teaching experience includes a yearlong internship teaching alongside the choral director at Minnechaug Regional High School. Presently, she is attending Westfield State University for Music Education and Special Education. Her eventual goal is to create and teach a music program to children with special needs.

Approach to Teaching:

Singers must be very conscientious of their instrument- it exists right inside of them! Because of this, I believe a firm technical foundation is imperative to great singing. My students will first learn the basics of proper singing and introductory vocal pedagogy. They will then will take that knowledge to create an artistic interpretation and performance of the song which they are learning. Once the student is given the proper tools for success, I know that they can succeed with a mixture of independent practice and guided learning. Encouragement, patience, and a positive attitude are the basis of every lesson.
