Angie Thoelen - BIO

Music has always been a very important part of Angie's life. Angie grew up in a musical family. Family gatherings were always filled with singing and music. Angie began studying the clarinet when she was in the 4th grade. She quickly realized how much fun playing an instrument was. At the age of 12, Angie began playing the piano. At the age of 17, Angie began teaching her first piano student. She enjoyed teaching so much that she wanted it to be her career. In 1999, Angie graduated from Westfield State College with a B.A. in music education and a passion to share the joy of music with all her students. Today, Angie has been teaching piano and clarinet for over 20 years. She also enjoys teaching music classes for 2-5 year old aspiring musicians. Angie has an affinity for teaching children with learning challenges. Angie also has experience singing with and directing her church choir.

My Approach to Teaching

I love to teach music! I plan each lesson according to the individual student's learning style and abilities. I put a strong emphasis on technique and music theory while encouraging the student to play "fun" songs. Students enjoy exploring different genres of piano music, as well music composition.
