Emily Roes - BIO

Emily holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Houghton University. She is a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and a certified PreK-12 music educator in Connecticut.

Emily has been teaching violin since her undergraduate days, teaching violin, viola, and cello to students ages 4-adult. Emily had the privilege of instituting the first elementary Suzuki strings program in the Granby Public School District, teaching violin group classes for Kindergarten - 3rd Grade, where she found joy teaching violin to a wide spectrum of learners. Emily has performed as violinist with the Farmington Symphony Orchestra, Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and as a violist with her in-house church orchestra. Emily also enjoys adjudicating for regional and All-state student orchestra auditions through the CT Music Educators Association.

I love taking the time to cultivate curiosity and playfulness with my youngest students, and facilitating musical independence and ownership with older students. Anyone can learn music with the right combination of time, process, and patient practice.

My Approach to Teaching

Emily enjoys teaching a wide span of ages in private and group lesson settings. She utilizes the Suzuki approach for beginners which establishes foundational playing proficiency through the same process as speech development - sound before sight. Reading printed music is a skill that Emily introduces at an age and stage specific to the student. Parent presence in lessons is encouraged, and younger siblings with quiet activities are more than welcome.
