Starting at the age of 12, Ucee has taken on the challenge of becoming the best viola specialist that they can be. Ucee performs, teaches, and studies Ethnomusicology and Musicology. With Chamber music being their driving passion, Ucee has spent many summers involved in music festivals and intensives, such as Summer Strings at NYU and Corcoran Chamber Music Summer Institute in Washington D.C.

“Chamber music is where I found my voice as a violist and my home as a musician. I believe chamber music participation is vital for all music students and can be rewarding too. I feel that the best part about music making is being able to connect with others through that shared experience!”

Along with being a passionate performer, Ucee loves teaching private lessons of all ages. Their path as a strings specialist began with giving violin and viola lessons to nieces and nephews, which led to continued teaching during college. Ucee was a substitute viola/violin instructor at Catoctin School of Music and was a viola sectional teacher for Camp Bernstine (ages 5-12), at Blue Lake Fine Arts. Besides being a sectional teacher at Blue Lake Fine Arts, they held the positions of a unit counselor, the violist of Blue Lake’s Staff String Quartet, and a member of Blue Lake Fine Arts Festival Orchestra. In their free time at Blue Lake, Ucee also gave private lessons to students.

As a graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory, with a Bachelors in Music Performance, Ucee accepted the position as a private instructor for upper strings with Music School Without Walls, Lessons in Your Home in 2020. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, along with administering private lessons, Ucee performed with the United States Air Force Band for A Tribute to the American Spirit performance. Post graduation, Ucee moved from the Maryland/ Washington D.C area to continue their studies in Ethnomusicology, Musicology, and Music Performance at the University of Massachusetts as a Masters student. Ucee hopes to become a Ethnomusicologist, as well as continue to support their studio of private string students.

My Approach to Teaching

One of my greatest joys in life is seeing my violin and viola students grow musically. My teaching philosophies are “If you can sing it you can play!” and “ With some patience, positivity, and practice anyone can learn and enjoy music!” The greatest gift of all is sharing the love of music with others.
