Carol Hutter - BIO

Carol has played viola in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra for 40 years, and is also the founder of the Bel Canto Chamber Players string quartet, where she plays violin. Carol’s performances include work with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Binghamton Symphony Orchestra, Vermont, Sacramento, Tri Cities Opera, Berkshire Choral Festival. She was fortunate enough to have worked under Gunther Schuller, Seiji Ozawa, and was also a soloist under Leonard Bernstein! Carol's other performances include the Peter Britt Music Festival in Oregon, The Waterloo Music Festival in New Jersey, The New England Chamber Orchestra, and The Flux Contemporary Music Ensemble. Carol is a member of the New England Repertory Orchestra (NERO), and has played with Pan Opera as well. She has recorded with artists such as Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem, the Winterpills, Mark Hershler, and others. Carol has a Master’s degree in music from The University of Massachusetts where she was in the Graduate String Quartet Program with the Meridian Quartet, and became the first Post Graduate String Quartet in Residence at UMASS. Carol has been teaching at Falcetti Music since 2015, and is the founding teacher at Northampton Community Music Center, where she still teaches. She was also a founding teacher at the Community Music School of Springfield where she taught for 35 years. Carol is also extremely well versed in the Suzuki method. She completed her Suzuki training at Ithaca College as well as The Hartt School. Carol has also studied the New Approach to string playing with Kato Havas, as well as Music for People with David Darling for multiple years.

Carol believes in a lot of positive reinforcement, and hopes that students will come open to technical and musical ideas that will go with their level of playing.
