Rachel Lloyd-Sterbenz - BIO

From a very early age, Rachel showed an interest in all things musical. Growing up in Maine, she first started exploring her creative interests through dance and performing in local theater productions. Starting voice lessons at age 8, Rachel was able to explore her vocal range and a variety of styles early on, later falling in love with opera and classical music. Rachel attended the University of Hartford, The Hartt School, where she completed her Bachelors in Voice Performance in 2018 and Masters in Music History with an emphasis in Research and Scholarship in 2020. During her time at The Hartt School, Rachel performed with the Hartt Opera Theater as Valencienne in The Merry Widow and Tonina in Prima la Musica, et Poi le Parole. During her Masters degree, Rachel focused her studies on opera history, representation of women on stage, and exploring popular film music. Today, Rachel is an active performer in the local West Hartford area, as well as teaches music history courses.

My Approach to Teaching

If you are making music, you should be having fun! Music is a place where all are welcome and where we can celebrate each other’s unique styles and talents. I believe that by focusing on building a strong technical foundation, you can apply your skills to any style of music you sing! While developing technique, we will also explore how to bring a song to life, through text exploration, stage presence and character development!
